Learn to speak Norwegian

Learning Norwegian on your own can be challenging. Apps and books are useful, but without structure it’s easy to lose direction, get stuck on grammar rules, or wonder if you’re really making progress. Many people spend months or years dabbling with apps like Duolingo, buying a course, or flipping through a textbook. The problem is that without a clear path, it’s hard to know what to learn next or how to use the language in real life.

That’s where private lessons make the difference. With Speak Norwegian, you’ll learn through live, one-on-one lessons with a native tutor. Real conversation, instant feedback, and a teacher who adapts to your pace give you both structure and momentum to move forward.

Our tutors aren’t just fluent speakers; they also understand the cultural side of learning. Having lived in both Norway and the United States, they know where American students often get stuck and how to explain things in a way that makes sense.

You won’t just study grammar and vocabulary. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use the language in real life

  • Understand cultural context that makes everything clearer

  • Progress at a pace that matches your needs and goals

When you sign up, you’ll also get access to the Speak Norwegian Community on Discord — a supportive space where you can connect with other students, ask questions between lessons, and keep practicing outside of class.

 FAQs

  • No. You don’t need any prior knowledge — we’ll help you build a foundation from scratch if you’re a beginner.

  • We currently accept students at A1–A2 (beginner) and B1–B2 (intermediate) levels.

    • A1–A2: Everyday basics — greetings, simple conversations, travel situations.

    • B1–B2: More advanced — conversations, expressing opinions, understanding media, and preparing for work or study in Norway.

  • Each lesson lasts 60 minutes. The full course includes 45 lessons.

A trial lesson is 30 minutes.

  • We’ll agree on a schedule after your trial. Since our students live across many time zones and have different work hours, lessons are usually booked one at a time to keep things flexible.

  • It depends on your level and goals. We use a mix of textbooks, audio, video, and real-world resources (like articles or YouTube videos). We try to adapt to your needs and interests.

  • We don’t issue certificates at this time, but many students have successfully used our lessons to prepare for official Norwegian exams.

  • That’s cool. Some students already know the basics and mainly want someone to talk with. We’ll adapt the lessons — and you can also join voice chats in our Discord community for extra speaking practice.

  • That’s normal. We create a friendly, supportive space where it’s okay to make mistakes. We’ll go step by step at a pace that feels right for you.

  • No, we don’t currently offer refunds. That’s one of the reasons why we recommend starting with a trial lesson before committing to the course.

  • Yes. Some students have arranged for their workplace to cover lesson costs, especially if Norwegian is useful for their job.

  • We only consider native Norwegian speakers. If you’re interested in teaching, you can send us a message in the ‘Contact Us’ section.

  • Yes, we’re open to partnerships and collaborations. If you have an idea, feel free to reach out via the ‘Contact Us’ page.
